The Ford Explorer has a functional interior, ample passenger space, strong powertrains and a well-controlled ride.
The Explorer's fully independent suspension gives it a reasonably comfortable ride and fairly responsive handling. Access is easy. The versatile interior features useful storage cubbies. The base V6 is noisy and unrefined, the optional V8 is quicker but thirsty. Stability control is standard.
The stereo controls are too small and poorly laid out. The a/c seems to take an awfully long time to cool the cabin.
Front seats lack lumbar support. |

Ford Explorer Strengths Excellent ride and handling, interior versatility, standard stability control, seating for up to seven, strong engine, comfortable cabin, good crash test scores. |

Ford Explorer Weaknesses Dull cabin design, noisy engine, low interior materials quality, confusing controls, fuel economy, low resale value, off-road ability. |
